Michael Nagel MA, the author of the "Getting Grounded" manual, is a counselor in private practice in the Portland, Oregon era. His practice, Whole Person Counseling, emphasizes a somatic (body-oriented) psychology approach. His training in somatic psychology provides his clients and "Getting Grounded" readers an advanced understanding of grounding.
Michael first conceived of the "Getting Grounded" manual when he would give oral instructions about grounding exercises to his clients. Often they would forget the exercises and how to do them. He began to write instructions for some exercises. When researching grounding on the internet, he noted that here and there a grounding exercise might be offered, but there was no book devoted to teaching grounding and the many grounding exercises which were developed by Western somatic psychology and Eastern contemplative practices.
Michael also has been trained in Focusing, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and hypnosis. He is a Focusing trainer and a hypnosis teacher certified by the 12,000 member National Guild of Hypnotists.
Michael's writings have been published in magazines, journals, and books. He also authors the Personal Authenticity Project blog which explores personal authenticity, its relevance, practice, and possibilities for profound spiritual deepening.
